The café has been purpose built to mimic a commercial kitchen to give students pre-employment job skills. Students are taught to navigate through a commercial kitchen for meal and beverage ordering on an iPad, payment for food, food preparation and tidying of equipment and workspace. Students rotate around in each task learning and refining their skills to contribute towards independent living skills and pre-employment skills.
Since the café has been in place, the teachers have observed students becoming more confident in their skills in creating an order, collecting ingredients, cooking, baking and paying for their food. The school was proud to have internationally renowned chef, Gabriel Gaté, at the opening of the café.
